In the past few weeks a lot of things have happened, but I’m not going to go into that. The biggest of the things though is that my girlfriend is moving away for a year and going on an internship to Atlanta in the USA. This sucks , of course it does, it means I’m not going to see the crazy moo for a whole year. So I’m going to have to find something else to occupy my time with. So Pixel Wars was born. This is the other major thing that’s happened recently.

Me and a guy I met in an IRC help channel (sounds dodgy doesn’t it) have gotten together and we’ve decided to create an online browser based MMO, it will be called pixel wars and it will be coded in asp.net c# and silverlight. Hopefully this will make it look so shiny that it will attract a lot of attention.

I’m planning on posting more about Pixel Wars in the coming days. More about the script, features and how the game will compare to the current market.

Stay tuned.

 Comments

Are a blogs statistics accurate?

I’m a little confused if i must say so, every time i log on to check what’s happening on my blog I find more and more page views and total visitors. I mean, if the numbers are accurate them I’m kind of flattered that so many people view my blog, its nice to know my rabid ramblings are reaching someone out there instead of clogging up what I already think is an overly congested internet.

Anyway my point is this, are the numbers on the statistics page accurate?

Id like to test this by requesting that anyone that views this post, posts a comment, it can be anything, just say hi or meh or weeeee or even “you suck stop clogging up our interweb”.

Looking forward to seeing the results of my little experiment 

 Comments

frustration

Have you ever had that feeling where you don’t know weather your heads going to implode or explode?

I have...

The initial install is, like always with Mozilla, nice and simple.

When the browser opens you’re greeted with a revised address bar on the top of your screen and a nice shiny website that tells you all about the new features. The new address bar is kinda nice, but this is where my first issue is. Therese no home button... I spent ages looking through the other menus and options and I can’t seem to find how to add a home button to the address bar! I’ve now had to resort to using the Alt+home shortcut on my keyboard but this isn’t ideal for a brand new web browser.

the new address bar has a host of new icons and all in all I like the new style, the back and forward buttons seem more "correct" and the addition of the bookmark button inside the address is nice.

Other new features that impressed me were the new way Firefox handles bookmarks and history. It uses kind of a browser style so you can search sort and filter all of your bookmarks and history.

as for stability, the only time I’ve found that Firefox crash’s is when i go to yahoo.co.uk and try to access my email, it doesn’t seem to like some of the effects on the yahoo page, but hey... its a beta.

All in all I like it, its faster than FF2 and much easier and nicer to use than IE7 (and don’t get me started on IE8).

So there you have it, my first product review , more to come soon.

 Comments

Give me an idea!

Like normal I’m sat at work bored wondering what I can do with my time, and before you say anything I have finished all my work for today .

So I put this to the community, I would like you guys to come up with an idea for a small application for me to design in c#. I’m relatively skilled in this language and i can incorporate a mysql database if needed.

So, please post your ideas as comments or mail me them privately. If I choose to make an application, the person that puts the idea forward will claim full credit for the idea.

Hope to hear from you

I bought an iPod Touch.

I bought this because... well... it’s shiny... come on, it’s a pda + movie player + mp3 player + personal organiser. I don’t regret buying it and I would recommend it to my friends without hesitation

i would however, like to know if there is anyone out there that knows of any 3rd party apps that you can run on this thing without having to jail break it. I mean actual applications, not the lame assed web apps that pose as application. Also, has anyone had any experience jail breaking their iPod Touch? How did it go? Can you restore it if it all goes tits up?

Looking forward to your responses.

What the hell is it with users and spam!

Ok, background. I'm the head of IT at a company in Denmark, i run 2 mail servers with around 300 users, 6 servers and 2 domains...

Now.. the rant!

Out of the 300 users that i serve with an email server i have around 30-35 of them that CONSTANTLY complain about spam. "I got 1 spam this week our spam filters not working right" WELL IF ITS NOT WORKING RIGHT LETS TURN IT OFF AN SEE HOW YOUR DAM MAILBOX LOOKS AFTER 5 MINUTES WITH NO SPAM FILTER! AUGH!!!.

numbers, 300 users, 300 email address's, 330 address's including aliases, around 6000 /smtp/ transactions per hour. Now, how many of those 6000 do you think are real emails... 1900!!!! Which leaves 4100 ‘mysterious’ transactions left. What are they I hear you ask? SPAM! Glorious wonderful SPAM! Now, divide 4100 by 320 and you get 12.xxx. that’s 12 spam per hour for every user on the server IF the spam filter is off... and this retard complains about 1 a week! And doesn’t he know spam adapts!

Gd dam Ihate users...

End of.

 Comments

time...

It’s been too long since I wrote a post on here so here I am to tell you all that I’m still alive...

It’s been a while since i got back from skiing and ever since I got back I’ve wanted to return to Norway and have some more fun! I’m totally hooked on skiing now and am planning to go next winter (with the same people plus another 20 in a huge group). I managed to make it down the wooded trail along with some red/black runs on my first week out there which was cool.

Along with that I’ve sorted things at work "w00t" everything’s finally fixed and working so I can concentrate on building the new website and improving my applications.

I think ill be writing another post today as I’m bored out of my mind at work due to the fact that no one is here! I’m the only one in the office at the moment and I’ve got a feeling its going to be this way for the rest of the day... shame I didn’t bring my external HDD with some games or something.

Anyway, more to come and comments are always welcome =P

 Comments

Am i going to die?

Ok, So it’s now 2:12 AM and the time is drawing close....

What time?

Well, my girlfriends mother is paying for all of her kids and their boyfriends to go on this huge skiing holiday for her 50th birthday (which was 2 years ago... you know women and planning). Well, were leaving at 7AM and we’ve only just finished packing and trying on our gear. It's the first time either of us has skied and, well, we’ve come to the conclusion that were going to die...

so, if we do die I’d like to say thanks for all of the fish (spot the line) and no you can’t have my stuff!

I can see it now...

weeeeeeeeeee SPLAT!!!

Goodbye

 Comments

Ok, You got me!

I've had quite a nice reception to this site to be honest and I’m surprised. I had a preconception that as soon as i got here id make 1 post and have 20 comments saying "you suck", "your gay" and all the other crap that idiots usually spout out of there arse while typing with their index finger only.

So I’ve decided to stay... yes... I’m here and your sure as hell not getting rid of me without a long pointy stick, a tube of super glue and a rabid hamster (name that line and win a prize lol).

So what to write about? I'm going to be blogging about World of Warcraft, The world of IT, Music and whatever else I can think of in the time between when I’m supposed to start work and the time I should finish. Granted I’m normally out of the door well before I should finish and it’s very rare that I’m here on time. So in all fairness I do have limited time to blog .

Keep tuned! It gets better I promise...

 Comments

The Cloud

What are my views on the future of computing?

I have to admit I have never actually been asked this question, but this being said it doesn’t change the fact that I have views and I want to voice them. So whether I’m asked or not I am going to tell you all what I think the future of computing will look like from my point of view.

Two words… The Cloud. Yes I know its been vloged blogged and ranted about for a while now but have you ever thought why? The cloud is here right now, were on it.

Think about how you use your computer today. You sit down at your very messy desk, reach across and switch on your box. You wait a few seconds and then the POST screen gets displayed on your monitor… then the various tests are run… then the windows logo… then a black screen… then the windows sound play way too loud because you forgot to turn your speakers down…. Then finally… after minutes of waiting… you get to your login screen! *yey*. But that’s not it, your not actually working yet are you, your still sat there looking at your desktop… you now have to find the program you want to run and then wait for that to open also!

Anyway you get the picture, the current way of using computers is a pain in the arse, you take 5 minutes booting the thing up and when you finaly get into windows you have to wait another 3 minutes for your applications to load. Well, this is where the cloud makes it all fun and games.

Here is how your computer would work if cloud computing was a reality on desktop PC’s.

You sit down at your still very messy desk, reach across and switch on your box. You wait a few seconds to see the POST screen… and then your computer scans its own memory, internet connection and other devices to check if everything’s ok… then your greeted with your webtop with all of the programs you could ever need neatly organized. Along side your programs you have live stock details, news and whatever else you could ever want all streaming live. Maybe even auto login to remote server admin (random I know). From here it takes seconds to open apps due to the fact your on a super fast internet connection from your 1GB WAN ISP. You get the idea.

The only problem is that we are a long way away from this being the norm in computing. Before we get to the stage I just described we would need many changes in the way we think and the way our technology works. Faster internet connections, unlimited bandwidth, better internet protocols, super secure data encryption, secure data centres with insanely fast access. Yep like I said, a looong way away but we are getting there. Look at google.com/ig, all you have to do is create an account and you can customize your webtop however you like! Have googledocs wherever you go just by logging on with your details, Gmail, advertisements, analytical tools… all wherever you go if you know your login details.

Ill close on this comment. What would you like from The Cloud?

 Comments

My First Post

Wow so this is bloging is it?

I'm currently sat in a cold printer room at work waiting for my isp to open up some ports on my firewall... so i though id come here and start on what i hope is going to be a half decent first ever blog post.

Now i know your all thinking "Who is this guy?", "Why the hell should i spend seconds out of my life reading this crap?". Well, have you got anything better to do? no? well sit down, shut up and carry on reading as itll be over soon... i promise!

How do you start these things anyway? Oh i know! A little bit about myself, yes that should break the ice... or melt it... or just scratch it a little i don't really care as its quite fun writing like this :-) and even more so because I'm writing on an English keyboard with a Danish key set so all the symbols are mixed up.

Ok, me? I'm 24, male, living in Denmark with my beautiful girlfriend, a Systems Admin at a company called Novatech and adicted to the oh so wonderful World of Warcraft. Yes I'm a WoW geek and proud! Admittedly though its not good for me as WoW = stress! Especial when it all goes tits up in an instance and you realize you just wasted 2 hours of your life pressing the "2" key and right mouse button over and over again... this happened last night by the way :-)

I'm also a music lover, web designer, graphical designer and Visual C# programmer so I've got plenty of things to pass the time.

Wow this has gotten to be quite long hasn't it! i didn't know i could rant this much! Guess ill have to call it a day for this post then. Keep an eye out for new ones though as i have a feeling i may be doing this more and more over the coming weeks :-) and hopefully on a better keyboard!

Laters!

 Comments
