I recently downloaded the new beta of Firefox to give it a whirl and i must say i have mixed feelings about it. The initial install is, like always with Mozilla, nice and simple.
When the browser opens you’re greeted with a revised address bar on the top of your screen and a nice shiny website that tells you all about the new features. The new address bar is kinda nice, but this is where my first issue is. Therese no home button... I spent ages looking through the other menus and options and I can’t seem to find how to add a home button to the address bar! I’ve now had to resort to using the Alt+home shortcut on my keyboard but this isn’t ideal for a brand new web browser.
the new address bar has a host of new icons and all in all I like the new style, the back and forward buttons seem more "correct" and the addition of the bookmark button inside the address is nice.
Other new features that impressed me were the new way Firefox handles bookmarks and history. It uses kind of a browser style so you can search sort and filter all of your bookmarks and history.
as for stability, the only time I’ve found that Firefox crash’s is when i go to yahoo.co.uk and try to access my email, it doesn’t seem to like some of the effects on the yahoo page, but hey... its a beta.
All in all I like it, its faster than FF2 and much easier and nicer to use than IE7 (and don’t get me started on IE8).
So there you have it, my first product review
, more to come soon.
