So, I got a new toy a few days ago and all I can say is that Im very impressed. I bought an iPod Touch.
I bought this because... well... its shiny... come on, its a pda + movie player + mp3 player + personal organiser. I dont regret buying it and I would recommend it to my friends without hesitation 
i would however, like to know if there is anyone out there that knows of any 3rd party apps that you can run on this thing without having to jail break it. I mean actual applications, not the lame assed web apps that pose as application. Also, has anyone had any experience jail breaking their iPod Touch? How did it go? Can you restore it if it all goes tits up?

Hi, I realise this post is a bit old now but I only just found it. Currently the only way to put additional apps on your iPod Touch is to jailbreak it. I've read good things about ziphone, but I haven't used it. There is also a new tool called Pwnage which installs hacked firmware on your iPod, but it's quite a recent development. As far as I know, if anything goes wrong, you can just restore your iPod in iTunes.
Come June, the new firmware will be out (version 2.0) with new features including the ability to install apps built in. I understand that current iPod Touch users will have to pay to access the new features though.
