  • Planes, Trains and Pixel Wars?

Well, I think it’s about time I wrote a blog post... don’t you think?
In the past few weeks a lot of things have happened, but I’m not going to go into that. The biggest of the things though is that my girlfriend is moving away for a year and going on an internship to Atlanta in the USA. This sucks , of course it does, it means I’m not going to see the crazy moo for a whole year. So I’m going to have to find something else to occupy my time with. So Pixel Wars was born. This is the other major thing that’s happened recently.

Me and a guy I met in an IRC help channel (sounds dodgy doesn’t it) have gotten together and we’ve decided to create an online browser based MMO, it will be called pixel wars and it will be coded in asp.net c# and silverlight. Hopefully this will make it look so shiny that it will attract a lot of attention.

I’m planning on posting more about Pixel Wars in the coming days. More about the script, features and how the game will compare to the current market.

    Stay tuned.

  • Are a blogs statistics accurate?

I’m a little confused if i must say so, every time i log on to check what’s happening on my blog I find more and more page views and total visitors. I mean, if the numbers are accurate them I’m kind of flattered that so many people view my blog, its nice to know my rabid ramblings are reaching someone out there instead of clogging up what I already think is an overly congested internet.

Anyway my point is this, are the numbers on the statistics page accurate?

Id like to test this by requesting that anyone that views this post, posts a comment, it can be anything, just say hi or meh or weeeee or even “you suck stop clogging up our interweb”.

Looking forward to seeing the results of my little experiment 

  • Firefox 3 b4 Review

I recently downloaded the new beta of Firefox to give it a whirl and i must say i have mixed feelings about it. The initial install is, like always with Mozilla, nice and simple.

When the browser opens you’re greeted with a revised address bar on the top of your screen and a nice shiny website that tells you all about the new features. The new address bar is kinda nice, but this is where my first issue is. Therese no home button... I spent ages looking through the other menus and options and I can’t seem to find how to add a home button to the address bar! I’ve now had to resort to using the Alt+home shortcut on my keyboard but this isn’t ideal for a brand new web browser.

the new address bar has a host of new icons and all in all I like the new style, the back and forward buttons seem more "correct" and the addition of the bookmark button inside the address is nice.

Other new features that impressed me were the new way Firefox handles bookmarks and history. It uses kind of a browser style so you can search sort and filter all of your bookmarks and history.

as for stability, the only time I’ve found that Firefox crash’s is when i go to yahoo.co.uk and try to access my email, it doesn’t seem to like some of the effects on the yahoo page, but hey... its a beta.

All in all I like it, its faster than FF2 and much easier and nicer to use than IE7 (and don’t get me started on IE8).

So there you have it, my first product review :), more to come soon.

  • Give me an idea!

Like normal I’m sat at work bored wondering what I can do with my time, and before you say anything I have finished all my work for today :).

So I put this to the community, I would like you guys to come up with an idea for a small application for me to design in c#. I’m relatively skilled in this language and i can incorporate a mysql database if needed.

So, please post your ideas as comments or mail me them privately. If I choose to make an application, the person that puts the idea forward will claim full credit for the idea.

    Hope to hear from you

  • My New toy

So, I got a new toy a few days ago and all I can say is that I’m very impressed. I bought an iPod Touch.

I bought this because... well... it’s shiny... come on, it’s a pda + movie player + mp3 player + personal organiser. I don’t regret buying it and I would recommend it to my friends without hesitation :)

i would however, like to know if there is anyone out there that knows of any 3rd party apps that you can run on this thing without having to jail break it. I mean actual applications, not the lame assed web apps that pose as application. Also, has anyone had any experience jail breaking their iPod Touch? How did it go? Can you restore it if it all goes tits up?

    Looking forward to your responses.

I’ve successfully managed to be at work and do absolutely nothing for 7 hours =D

    Go me!

  • users and spam

Oh my fu**ing god! What the hell is it with users and spam!

Ok, background. I'm the head of IT at a company in Denmark, i run 2 mail servers with around 300 users, 6 servers and 2 domains...

    Now.. the rant!

Out of the 300 users that i serve with an email server i have around 30-35 of them that CONSTANTLY complain about spam. "I got 1 spam this week our spam filters not working right" WELL IF ITS NOT WORKING RIGHT LETS TURN IT OFF AN SEE HOW YOUR DAM MAILBOX LOOKS AFTER 5 MINUTES WITH NO SPAM FILTER! AUGH!!!.

numbers, 300 users, 300 email address's, 330 address's including aliases, around 6000 /smtp/ transactions per hour. Now, how many of those 6000 do you think are real emails... 1900!!!! Which leaves 4100 ‘mysterious’ transactions left. What are they I hear you ask? SPAM! Glorious wonderful SPAM! Now, divide 4100 by 320 and you get 12.xxx. that’s 12 spam per hour for every user on the server IF the spam filter is off... and this retard complains about 1 a week! And doesn’t he know spam adapts!

    Gd dam Ihate users...

    End of.
